KIECKIEC - Kwinana Industries Eco-Efficiency Committee Established in 2002, the Eco-Efficiency Committee was formed in response to the recommendations highlighted in the Kwinana Industrial Area Economic Impact Study 2002. It was realised that an improved understanding of materials and energy flows with a particular focus on eco-efficiency would be beneficial in respect to economic and environmental outcomes. Eco-Efficiency is a management strategy that links financial and environmental performance to create more value with less ecological impact. The Eco-Efficiency Committee aims to contribute to leadership in sustainable development through improving the overall eco-efficiency of the Kwinana Industrial Area. This will be achieved by:
The KIC contributes to Curtin University's Cooperative Research Centre for Sustainable Resource Processing (CSRP) and the Australian Research Council (ARC). As part of this research, the CSRP is aiming to review best practice and trial a method for assessing and encouraging synergies (Synergy: the potential ability for individuals or groups to be more successful working together than on their own). The research will also assess and develop further synergy opportunities in the Kwinana Industrial Area. This will assist the industries to achieve greater efficiencies in energy, water and materials consumption and reductions in waste and emission generation. |
