About the KIC Education Partnership
The Kwinana Industries Council Education Partnership is established to build and strengthen relationships and implement projects to improve the connection between Kwinana Industries and regional education providers. In January 2011, the Kwinana Industries Council appointed an Industry and Education Community Liaison Officer whose primary focus is to build relationships and strengthen the connection between industry and education providers in the area. In conjunction with the KIC Workforce and Education Committee (WEC), the officer is responsible for assisting KIC members to develop and maintain a viable and sustainable workforce for the Kwinana Industrial Area (KIA) in the long term. The program is the result of the dissolution of the Kwinana Industries Education Partnership Inc (KIEP). Originally established through KIC in 1995 as an ‘Education in Excellence Compact’, KIEP evolved out of the recognition that the local community was not necessarily making the most of the benefits of industrial development; nor were the companies in the Kwinana region effectively able to utilise the local populace as a source of workers. The perceived overlap between the needs of industry and the needs of school students led to the creation of the partnership and a commitment between education providers and industry to work together to develop long-term relationships to achieve excellence and broaden the learning experiences of students.
Due to a number of issues KIEP was facing in relation to building an ongoing and sustainable source of funding, KIEP approached the Kwinana Industries Council to manage and fund the partnership programs and continue the relationships between industry and the schools, a valued and recognised element to the partnership. Subsequently the KIEP was dissolved in 2010. |
