Apprenticeship & Traineeships

Start your career at school

Apprenticeship and traineeships are a great way to start your career. They combine practical work experience with structured training. As an apprentice or trainee, you enter a formal training contract with an employer that leads to a nationally-recognised qualification.

If you are interested in traditional trades like metals, manufactory and automotive services then you would consider an apprenticeship. Traineeships are usually in the areas of hospitality, community services and health.

When you are an apprentice or trainee:

  • You get paid while you learn
  • You can start your training at school
  • You receive nationally accredited qualifications.

Once you have completed your qualification:

  • You can receive higher pay
  • More job opportunities
  • More options for further education and training
Talk to your VET Coordinator about VET programs available at your school.

Tools for your Trade
An apprentice may be entitled to a toolkit to assist in undertaking an apprenticeship in an area identified as a skills shortage trade.
